Hotel Pick-Up & Scenic Drive South
The day starts early with a comfortable pick-up from your clients’ Melbourne CBD or Southbank hotel. The drive south through Gippsland takes approximately two and a half hours, passing through lush green farmland and small country towns. Your experienced driver-guide provides commentary on the region’s history and ecology along the way, with a brief morning tea stop at a local township.
Trade tip: Pick-up times can be adjusted. For clients staying in the Mornington Peninsula or Phillip Island areas, we can arrange alternative pick-up points to reduce travel time. Private vehicle upgrades with personalised guiding are available on request.
Wilsons Promontory National Park Arrival
Entering the park, the landscape shifts dramatically. Dense bushland closes in around the road and the first wildlife sightings often happen right here – emus grazing by the roadside, rosellas flashing through the canopy. Your guide provides an overview of the park’s geography and significance as one of Victoria’s oldest and most beloved national parks. A short stop at the park information centre gives travellers a chance to orient themselves before heading deeper in.

Squeaky Beach Walk
Named for the sound its fine quartz sand makes underfoot, Squeaky Beach is one of the Prom’s signature experiences. The walk from the car park takes about 20 minutes through coastal heathland before opening out to a stunning beach framed by massive granite boulders. The water is impossibly clear. It looks like it belongs in the tropics, except the boulders and bush give it something distinctly Australian.
Trade tip: This is a genuinely photogenic location and a highlight for social media-conscious travellers. The walk is well-maintained but involves some uneven ground and a short boardwalk section. It is manageable for most fitness levels. For clients with limited mobility, we can substitute with an easier beach access point at Norman Bay.
Lunch at Tidal River
Tidal River is the main hub within the park, set beside a winding river with wombats often wandering through the picnic grounds in broad daylight. Lunch options include a catered picnic spread prepared by our team using local Gippsland produce, or a self-service meal at the park’s general store and cafe. The riverside setting, with mountains rising behind and birds calling overhead, makes this one of those lunch spots that stays with people.
Trade tip: For incentive groups and premium FIT clients, we can arrange a fully catered gourmet picnic with local wines and artisan produce. Dietary requirements are easily accommodated with advance notice. Wombat sightings at Tidal River are virtually guaranteed – have your clients’ cameras ready.
Lilly Pilly Gully Rainforest Walk
This gentle circuit walk (approximately 5km, about 2 hours) takes travellers through a completely different landscape to the beaches. Cool temperate rainforest with towering tree ferns, ancient myrtle beech, and lilly pilly trees. The canopy closes in overhead and the air changes noticeably. Birdlife is abundant – king parrots, superb fairy-wrens, and if your clients are quiet enough, the occasional lyrebird.
Trade tip: This walk can be shortened to a 30-minute return section for clients who prefer a lighter pace. The full circuit involves some gentle inclines but no difficult terrain. It offers a welcome contrast to the coastal sections and rounds out the Prom experience nicely.
Late Afternoon Wildlife Drive
As the afternoon light softens, the park’s wildlife becomes increasingly active. The drive from Tidal River back towards the park entrance is one of the best wildlife-viewing opportunities in regional Victoria. Wombats emerge from their burrows, kangaroos and wallabies graze in open clearings, and emus are often spotted along the roadside. Your guide knows the best spots and will stop wherever there is something worth seeing.
Trade tip: Late afternoon is prime time for wildlife encounters in the park. We time the departure specifically to take advantage of this. For photography-focused groups, we can allocate extra time at key spotting locations. This is the part of the day that often generates the most memorable moments.
Hotel Return Transfer
The drive back to Melbourne takes around two and a half hours, giving travellers time to rest after a full day outdoors. Your guide drops clients at their hotel by approximately 7:30pm. For those wanting to extend the evening, we can pre-arrange dinner reservations at one of Melbourne’s celebrated restaurants or a late-night bar experience in the laneways.
