Great Ocean Drive, Indigenous Culture & French Bistro Dining

Clients fly into Esperance from Perth – approximately 90 minutes – and pick up their vehicle or are met by a pre-arranged transfer. The first stop is the 40km Great Ocean Drive tourist loop, one of Australia’s most scenic coastal roads. It takes in Twilight Beach, Rotary Lookout, Observatory Point, wind farms, and the famous Pink Lake.

The afternoon centres on the Taananeditj Trail – a Walk on Country tour with Dabungool Cultural Experiences at Dempster Head. This is a 1.5-hour guided coastal bushfood forage with spectacular views, finishing with damper and homemade quandong jam. It is a genuinely engaging cultural experience and one of the standout products in the region for international travellers.

Lunch at The Pier Hotel, then dinner at Bistro Louis – French-inspired cuisine with Australian wines and a relaxed bistro atmosphere. Not what most people expect to find in a remote coastal town, which is part of the charm.

Trade tip: For clients arriving from Perth, the flight is short and efficient. Self-drive from Perth is also an option – roughly 7 hours via the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway – which works well for clients combining Esperance with the Goldfields. The Walk on Country experience with Dabungool adds genuine depth and storytelling to any itinerary. It books out, so secure it early.

Recherche Archipelago Wildlife Cruise, Brewery Tour & Glass Art

The morning starts with a half-day wildlife cruise with Esperance Island Cruises (family-operated since 1983) through the Recherche Archipelago. This is one of the most pristine marine environments in Australia – over 105 islands, with fur seals, sea lions, dolphins, and White-Bellied Sea Eagles regularly spotted. There is snorkelling in crystal-clear water and complimentary morning tea at Blue Haven.

After the cruise, clients visit Lucky Bay Brewing for a guided brewery tour with tastings and wood-oven pizza. This is Australia’s only brewery using up to 75% raw locally grown barley – a proper artisan operation worth the stop.

The afternoon finishes at Cindy Poole Glass Artist Gallery for a Discover and Create Tour, where guests make their own glass keepsake. The gallery is an accredited sustainable tourist attraction just off the Great Ocean Drive. Dinner at The Quarters – a heritage building on Esperance Bay serving contemporary Australian cuisine with the freshest local ingredients.

Trade tip: The island cruise is the signature Esperance experience and appeals to a wide range of clients. Whale sightings are possible from June to October. The glass art workshop is hands-on and makes for excellent social media content – something younger travellers and incentive groups respond to particularly well.

Half-Day 4WD Adventure Through Cape Le Grand National Park

A half-day 4WD adventure with Tour Esperance in a Land Rover Discovery – Esperance’s only true 4×4 experience. The route heads into Cape Le Grand National Park, taking in Lucky Bay and its famous white sand and kangaroos, the granite monoliths of Frenchman Peak (Mandooboornup) and Mount Le Grand (Mandoowernup), massive sand dunes, and the climb up Wylie Rock for panoramic views of Esperance Bay.

Lucky Bay is the one your clients will have seen on Instagram. Kangaroos genuinely do lounge on the sand there. But the broader national park is what elevates it – granite headlands, hiking trails through coastal scrub, and water that looks photoshopped. It is not.

Lunch at 33 Degrees – a renovated pub on the Esperance Esplanade overlooking the Bay of Isles. The afternoon is free for clients to explore at their own pace.

Trade tip: The Land Rover 4WD experience accesses parts of the park that standard vehicles cannot reach. It is a premium product and works especially well for adventurous couples and small groups. For clients who prefer walking, there are excellent trails at Cape Le Grand that we can incorporate instead.

Free Morning & Onward Travel

A flexible final day. Clients can spend the morning beach hopping along the coast – there are easily a dozen beaches within a short drive that most visitors never see. For something more structured, an optional scenic flight with Fly Esperance offers aerial views of the coastline and archipelago that put the scale of this landscape into perspective.

Clients then depart Esperance for Perth or continue onwards to the next Western Australian destination.

Trade tip: Esperance connects naturally to Albany (roughly 5 hours by road), the Goldfields region around Kalgoorlie-Boulder, or back to Perth by air. For agents building broader Western Australian itineraries, we recommend positioning Esperance as part of a multi-destination loop rather than a fly-in-fly-out. For clients wanting the best all-round weather and the widest range of experiences, we suggest October through April.
Most of the experiences are family-friendly. The island cruise, 4WD adventure, glass art workshop, and beach hopping all work for families with children. Note that Box Hill Experience is adults-only accommodation. RAC Esperance Holiday Park is a strong alternative for families, with self-contained villas right across from the bay.
