Eyre Peninsula Touring for the Travel Trade

Explore the Eyre Peninsula

South Australia’s Seafood Frontier. From world-famous Coffin Bay oysters shucked straight from the lease, to southern right whales breaching against the Bunda Cliffs, this is a region that delivers experiences your clients will not find anywhere else in Australia. Pristine coastline, footprint-free beaches, wildlife encounters, and some of the country’s finest local produce – packaged for travel agents building tailor-made FIT itineraries, small group touring, and incentive programmes that need real substance.

About This Destination

Eyre Peninsula, South Australia

The Eyre Peninsula sits on the western coast of South Australia, jutting out into the Great Australian Bight. It is known, quite rightly, as Australia’s Seafood Frontier. The region produces some of the country’s most celebrated seafood – Coffin Bay oysters, Spencer Gulf king prawns, southern rock lobster, abalone – and the touring experiences built around that produce are genuinely world-class.

But it is more than a food destination. The coastline is dramatic. Rugged cliffs give way to white sandy beaches that rarely see a footprint. From June to October, up to 120 southern right whales gather at the Head of Bight to calve and nurse, with the Bunda Cliffs providing one of the most spectacular backdrops to whale watching anywhere on earth. Add wild koalas at Mikkira Station, sea lion colonies, national parks, and a pace of life that feels genuinely unhurried, and you have a destination that works brilliantly for Fully Independent Traveller (FIT) itineraries, small group touring, and incentive programmes looking for something off the beaten track.

  • 1-day, 3-day, and multi-day touring options from Port Lincoln and Ceduna
  • Return flights from Adelaide included on 3-day packages
  • Small group and private touring available across all itineraries
  • Whale watching season June to October at Head of Bight
  • Ideal for FIT, foodies, wildlife enthusiasts, and incentive groups

3-Day Whale Watching Tour – Adelaide Return

This small group tour heads to the Nullarbor region and the Head of Bight, one of Australia’s most spectacular whale watching locations. From June to October, up to 120 southern right whales gather here to calve and nurse in the waters of the Great Australian Bight Marine Park. The Bunda Cliffs provide the backdrop. It is extraordinary.

The tour includes return flights from Adelaide and runs every Tuesday during whale season.

Day 1 – Adelaide to Ceduna

Guests fly from Adelaide to Ceduna and are met by their guide. After morning tea and an overview of the days ahead, the group travels to picturesque Smoky Bay for the first seafood experience. SA Premium Oysters runs a boat tour to their working oyster lease, complete with a unique viewing platform. Guests shuck and taste sweet Pacific Oysters straight from the ocean while sipping local wine on the calm water. Not a fan of oysters? Alternative local produce is arranged.

Late afternoon, check into beachfront spa villa accommodation. The guide prepares a local produce feast as the group watches sunset over the ocean.

Day 2 – Head of Bight & Nullarbor

An early start to take in the jaw-dropping beauty of the Head of Bight and Bunda Cliffs. Stand on the “Edge of Australia” at an awe-inspiring coastal lookout. Visit the Head of Bight Whale Centre. There is an optional 45-minute scenic flight over the Great Australian Bight – spotting whales from above alongside the vast Nullarbor Plain.

The afternoon takes in an iconic outback roadhouse and caves along the Nullarbor. Dinner at the Ceduna Hotel.

Day 3 – Ceduna to Adelaide

Breakfast on the foreshore, then to Fowlers Bay for a two-hour whale and wildlife oceanic cruise. Southern right whales sheltering with their young, humpback whales, dolphins, sea lions, little penguins, and birdlife. Back on land, lunch and more whale watching from the foreshore. The afternoon takes in Penong and its windmills, the world-famous surf break at Cactus Beach, and the endless deserted beaches of Point Sinclair. Evening flight back to Adelaide.

3-Day Seafood Lovers Tour – Adelaide Return

Designed for clients who love seafood and the good things in life. This is a harvest-to-plate journey that puts travellers right in the middle of the action – shucking oysters on a working lease, diving for abalone, catching fish off the back of a vessel, and dining at pop-up beach restaurants on deserted islands.

Runs December to March, based on private departures of 2, 4, or 6 guests. Includes return flights from Adelaide.

Day 1 – Tuesday

Fly Adelaide to Ceduna. The guide meets the group and sets the scene over lunch. Then it is straight into the adventure – off-road four-wheel driving along the white sandy beach at Davenport Creek, followed by a hands-on harvest experience at Denial Bay, trying to snare fresh blue swimmer crabs to cook up later. Late afternoon, check into a beachside spa villa with ocean views. The guide prepares a feast of fresh local produce and wine as the sun drops.

Day 2

The signature experience. Board EP Cruises’ vessel Asherah for a four-hour seafood culinary cruise. Throughout the trip, produce is harvested directly from the ocean floor. Guests have the chance to dive for abalone, shuck oysters, and catch fish from the back of the vessel. Each component is prepared on board by the crew and presented as canapés paired with local wines. This is not a demonstration. It is genuinely participatory.

Back on the mainland, a stroll along the beach and time at the accommodation before an evening meal at the Ceduna Hotel.

Day 3

Sleep in, then breakfast prepared on the foreshore. Travel to Smoky Bay for the SA Premium Oysters harvest experience – boat to the working lease, shuck and taste Pacific Oysters straight from the ocean. As the tour wraps up, a final stop at a secret bay with a pop-up restaurant serving freshly baked pastries, sweet treats, and local dessert wines overlooking the ocean. Flight back to Adelaide at 5.20 pm.

Inclusions: Return flights Adelaide to Ceduna, 2 nights in 4.5-star spa villa with ocean views, all experiences, all meals and beverages, airport transfers, executive 4WD transport, local guide.

Trade tip: The EP Cruises experience on Day 2 is the standout. Clients who value immersive food experiences will talk about it for years. This is a strong option for incentive groups and foodies looking for something genuinely different. The private group format means it works well for couples and small groups alike. December to March only, so plan accordingly.

The best of Port Lincoln and Coffin Bay – South Australia’s premier food and wine touring experience. Combines local produce, wildlife, culture, and spectacular scenery across three packed days. Small group touring with up to 7 people, or upgrade to a private group.

Day 1 – Adelaide to Port Lincoln

Fly to Port Lincoln and meet the local guide. A town tour and coffee, then lunch at the iconic Fresh Fish Place – a tantalising introduction to the region’s seafood harvest. Afterward, board the Tesla, a unique electric canal cruiser for a tranquil cruise around Port Lincoln’s Marina and a look at Australia’s largest commercial fishing fleet. The afternoon is spent in Lincoln National Park, stretching legs on a walk up Stamford Hill and visiting pristine beaches and lookouts.

Check in to the Port Lincoln Hotel. Dinner at the Marina Hotel.

Day 2 – Coffin Bay

A foodie’s dream. Start in Coffin Bay National Park – white sandy beaches, morning tea at Yangie Bay. Then the highlight: a Coffin Bay oyster tour, tasting the world’s most sought-after oysters straight from the ocean. Lunch at 1802 Oyster Bar and Restaurant, sampling Chef Andy’s favourite dishes from sea and land.

Afternoon visits to Glen Forest Tourist Park for up-close wildlife encounters, wine tasting at Lincoln Estate, and free time before dinner at the award-winning Del Giorno’s.

Day 3

Discover the stunning coastline at Sleaford Bay and Whalers Way. Visit Mikkira Station, home to 150 koalas living in the manna gum trees, plus kangaroos and emus and the historic homestead. Lunch at Boston Bay Wines with Chef Tony Ford for the “Feed Me Fordie” experience – fresh local produce and premium wines over a long lunch at his second-generation vineyard.

Return to the airport for the flight back to Adelaide.

Inclusions: Return flights Adelaide to Port Lincoln, 2 nights at Port Lincoln Hotel, all meals and some beverages, all entry fees, national park fees and activities, Coffin Bay oyster experience, airport transfers, executive 4WD transport, local guide.

Trade tip: This is the most well-rounded Eyre Peninsula itinerary for clients who want a bit of everything – seafood, wildlife, coastline, wine. The koalas at Mikkira Station are wild (not a sanctuary) and the experience is far more authentic than most wildlife encounters. Strong year-round product. Pairs well with Adelaide wine region touring for a broader South Australian package.

Two glasses of crisp white wine are elegantly arranged on a wooden table alongside fresh green grapes, green vine leaves, and a woven straw hat, creating a leisurely vineyard or wine country aesthetic with soft natural lighting.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on what your clients are after. For whale watching, the season runs June to October, with July to September being peak months when the largest numbers of southern right whales are at the Head of Bight. The seafood touring and coastal experiences around Port Lincoln and Coffin Bay operate year-round, though the Seafood Lovers Tour runs December to March. Spring and autumn offer mild weather and fewer visitors. Summer is warm but manageable on the coast. There is no bad time to visit, but for clients wanting whales and seafood in a single trip, aim for June to early October.
All 3-day touring packages include return flights from Adelaide. Port Lincoln is roughly a 50-minute flight from Adelaide, and Ceduna is about 90 minutes. Driving from Adelaide to Port Lincoln takes around 7 hours via the coast road, which is scenic but long. For most international clients, the flights are the practical choice and are factored into the tour packaging. We can also arrange connections from other Australian cities through Adelaide.
The touring is accessible to most fitness levels. There is some walking on beaches and through national parks, and clients will need to get in and out of boats for oyster tours and wildlife cruises. Nothing is strenuous – the longest walk is a stroll up Stamford Hill in Lincoln National Park. The four-wheel driving along beaches is done as a passenger. Guests with specific mobility concerns should let us know at booking so we can advise on any limitations for particular experiences.
Absolutely. The Eyre Peninsula is a strong incentive destination precisely because it offers something most delegates will never have experienced. We can arrange private group departures across all itineraries, combine elements from different tours, and add bespoke touches – exclusive beach dining, private oyster lease events, scenic flights, or wine experiences. For larger incentive groups, we coordinate multiple vehicles and guides while maintaining the small-group feel. Contact us at enquiries@aabh.com.au to discuss what works for your group size and objectives.
The Eyre Peninsula pairs naturally with Adelaide and the surrounding wine regions – the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and the Adelaide Hills are all within easy reach. Kangaroo Island is another logical extension for wildlife-focused clients. We build complete Australian itineraries for the travel trade, so the Eyre Peninsula can sit alongside the Great Ocean Road, Sydney, the Red Centre, or any of our other product. It works particularly well as a 3- to 4-day component within a 10- to 14-day South Australian or cross-country journey. The region adds genuine depth and difference to an itinerary that might otherwise lean heavily on the well-known east coast highlights.
A stunning twilight view of Brisbane's modern city skyline reflecting in the Brisbane River, featuring the iconic Story Bridge, contemporary high-rise buildings illuminated against a vibrant purple and blue sky, with historic riverside landmarks in the foreground including a lighthouse and heritage structures.
