Eco Safari Day Tours for the Travel Trade

Habitat Noosa Everglades Eco Safaris

Wilderness river cruises, canoeing safaris, and glamping accommodation just 25 minutes from Noosa Heads – deep in Queensland’s stunning Everglades. A unique eco-tourism experience perfect for Fully Independent Traveller (FIT) itineraries, self-drive programmes, and small group touring where your clients want to go beyond the beach and into a landscape unlike anything else in Australia.

About This Experience

Noosa Everglades, Queensland

Habitat Noosa was purpose-built as the home of Everglades Eco Safaris, giving your clients direct access to one of Queensland’s most remarkable waterway systems. The Noosa Everglades – one of only two everglades systems on the planet – wind through a pristine landscape of mirrored waterways, ancient paperbark forests, and protected wilderness that feels a world away from the Sunshine Coast resort strip. The thing is, it’s only 25 minutes from Noosa Heads.

That accessibility is what makes Habitat Noosa such a strong addition to FIT itineraries and self-drive programmes. Your clients can be exploring untouched waterways by morning and back at their Noosa hotel by afternoon. The site offers daily wilderness river cruises and canoeing safaris departing at 9:30am and returning by 2:00pm, along with on-site glamping accommodation for clients who want to stay overnight. It works equally well as a day tour stop on a Sunshine Coast itinerary or as a one- or two-night wilderness immersion.

  • Daily eco safari departures – river cruise or cruise and canoe options
  • Just 25 minutes from Noosa Heads, 45 minutes from Sunshine Coast Airport
  • Morning tea at Harry’s Hut and chef-prepared lunch included
  • On-site glamping accommodation – Paperbark Tents and Wilderness Tents
  • Ideal for FIT, self-drive, families, and small group touring

TOUR OPTIONS

Everglades Eco Safaris – Day by Day

Everglades Eco Safaris – Day Cruise Tour

The core product and the one most travel agents will reach for. This is a full-day wilderness river cruise departing daily from Habitat Noosa at 9:30am and returning by 2:00pm. Guests cruise deep into the Noosa Everglades aboard a purpose-built eco vessel, gliding through mirror-still waterways lined with ancient paperbark forests, melaleuca swamps, and pristine bushland.

The morning includes a stop at Harry’s Hut for morning tea – a remote riverside location accessible only by water. After exploring further into the Everglades, guests return to Habitat Noosa for a chef-prepared lunch. There’s time afterwards to relax in the CootharaBAR, grab a gelato, and decompress before heading back to Noosa.

A shuttle bus operates between Noosa and Habitat Noosa for guests without their own transport. Check-in is at 9:00am with boarding at 9:15am.

Trade tip: This is a straightforward half-day product that slots neatly into Sunshine Coast FIT itineraries without eating up the whole day. Clients are back in Noosa by mid-afternoon. It works particularly well as a contrast day between beach time and the hinterland. Departs daily except 25th December.

Everglades Eco Safaris – Cruise ‘n’ Canoe Tour

Same departure and return times as the Day Cruise, but with a wilderness canoeing component added. Guests cruise into the Everglades and then paddle their own canoe for approximately one hour through the waterways – either before or after the morning tea stop at Harry’s Hut, depending on conditions.

All canoeing equipment is provided, including waterproof bags for personal items. No prior experience is required. The paddling is gentle and the water is calm – this is not white-water territory. It is, however, genuinely immersive. Being at water level in a canoe, surrounded by nothing but paperbark forest and birdlife, is a different experience entirely from viewing it from a larger vessel.

Morning tea and chef-prepared lunch are included, same as the Day Cruise. Guests return to Habitat Noosa by 2:00pm.

Trade tip: The Cruise ‘n’ Canoe is the better option for active travellers and younger clients who want more than a sit-down cruise. It adds a hands-on element without making the day strenuous. Minimum age for the canoeing component is 7 years. Family rates are available.

Paperbark Tent Accommodation

For clients who want to stay overnight at Habitat Noosa rather than day-trip from the coast, the Paperbark Tents are the premium option. These are 30m2 ensuited glamping tents surrounded by native bushland, a short walk from Lake Cootharaba. Each tent comes with fresh linen, a bar fridge, tea and coffee facilities, ceiling fan, 240v power, and a private deck.

Bedding configurations include a combined King bed (default) or split King Singles on request. Family configurations are available with a Queen bed and single bunk, sleeping up to two adults and two children. Maximum occupancy is three adults or two adults plus two children per tent.

Each tent has its own private bathroom facilities with shower and toilet. It is proper glamping – comfortable and well-appointed without pretending to be a hotel.

Trade tip: Paperbark Tents pair naturally with the eco safari day tours. A one-night stay gives clients the sunset and sunrise on the lake, plus access to the CootharaBAR and Bistro for dinner. Two-night minimum applies during public holidays. Reservations must specify the breakdown of adults and children with ages, plus bedding requirements.

Wilderness Tent Accommodation

A more affordable accommodation option for clients who don’t need private ensuite facilities. Habitat Noosa has 13 Wilderness Tents, each 24m2, with shared bathroom and toilet facilities a short walk away. The tents feature four zip-down walls for ventilation, a ceiling light, and a double power point.

Two configurations are available. The standard Queen Wilderness Tent sleeps up to four guests with a queen bed and single bunks. The Double Wilderness Tent sleeps up to five with a double bed, single bed, and single bunks.

Trade tip: These work well for families, younger travellers, and self-drive clients who are comfortable with a more rustic camping-style setup. They bring the overnight Everglades experience within reach for a wider range of budgets. Good option for the campervan and self-drive market segment too – clients who are already comfortable with shared facilities.

Location & Access

Habitat Noosa sits in a genuinely convenient spot for a wilderness experience. It’s 25 minutes from Noosa Heads, 45 minutes from Sunshine Coast Airport, roughly 1.5 hours north of Brisbane, and about an hour south of Fraser Island. That proximity to both Noosa and Fraser Island makes it easy to build into Sunshine Coast itineraries without requiring a major detour.

For clients without a car, a shuttle bus operates between Noosa and Habitat Noosa. Self-drive clients can park on site. The Everglades themselves are just 10 minutes by boat from the Habitat Noosa base.

Trade tip: The location is the hidden advantage of this product. It sits right between Noosa and Fraser Island on the map, which means you can slot it into a north-bound or south-bound Sunshine Coast itinerary without any backtracking. For self-drive programmes, it’s a natural overnight stop between Brisbane and Fraser Island. For Noosa-based FIT bookings, it’s an easy day trip that adds genuine depth to a beach holiday.

CootharaBAR, Bistro & Facilities

Habitat Noosa is more than a tour departure point. The site includes the CootharaBAR and Bistro for food and drinks, a gelato bar, spacious campsites for the self-drive RV market, and group cabin facilities alongside the glamping tents.

After eco safari tours return at 2:00pm, guests are encouraged to stay and enjoy a cold drink at the CootharaBAR. It’s a relaxed way to round out the experience. For overnight guests, the bistro and bar provide dinner options so there’s no need to drive back to Noosa for a meal.

Trade tip: The on-site dining and bar facilities mean this works as a self-contained experience for overnight clients. No need to coordinate restaurant bookings elsewhere. For day-tour clients, the post-tour drink at the CootharaBAR is a nice touch that extends the experience beyond just the cruise itself.
