The Best of Eastern Australia is a 12-day FIT itinerary covering Sydney, the Hunter Valley wine region, Cairns, Cape Tribulation, Magnetic Island, and the Whitsundays. Your Eastern Australia Journey – Day by Day
Arrive in Sydney & Settle In
On arrival in Sydney, a private driver collects your clients from the airport and transfers them to their downtown hotel. The rest of the day is theirs. Depending on energy levels after the flight, they might take a walking tour through The Rocks – Sydney’s oldest neighbourhood, all sandstone laneways and harbourside pubs – or perhaps a Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb if they’re feeling ambitious.
Sydney rewards that first afternoon of wandering. Circular Quay, the Opera House forecourt, the Royal Botanic Gardens. It’s one of those cities that looks better in person than in photos, which is saying something.
Trade tip: We recommend booking clients into a hotel near Circular Quay or Darling Harbour for easy access to the touring over the next few days. The Harbour Bridge Climb can be pre-booked and makes a strong first-day activity for clients who aren’t jet-lagged.
Hunter Valley Wine Experience
A full-day guided tour to Australia’s oldest wine-producing region. Your clients travel over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and through the Hawkesbury River countryside to the picturesque Hunter Valley. The day includes visits to Leogate Estate for award-winning varietal tastings with views of the Brokenback Ranges, then Hunter Valley Resort for a vineyard walk and lunch prepared with local produce.
After lunch there’s the option to sample a beer tasting paddle from the on-site brewery. The afternoon continues at McGuigan’s Winery for a private group tasting and cellar door visit, before finishing at Roche Estate where clients can browse Australian cheeses, gourmet delights, gelato, and craft beer.

Trade tip: The Hunter Valley day works well early in the itinerary while clients are still in Sydney. It’s relaxed, scenic, and a good way to ease into the trip before the more active days in Queensland. Clients return to their Sydney hotel that evening.
Blue Mountains Full-Day Tour
An early departure at 7:55am for a full day exploring the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains National Park – over one million hectares of dramatic cliffs, deep canyons, and eucalyptus bushland. The tour visits the famous Three Sisters rock formation at Echo Point, then Scenic World where clients can ride the Scenic Railway (the world’s steepest), the Cableway, and the Skyway across the valley.
Lunch is in the charming village of Leura, followed by an afternoon encounter at a wildlife park where clients get up close to koalas, kangaroos, wombats, and dingoes. The return to Sydney includes the option of a river cruise along the Parramatta River back to Darling Harbour or Circular Quay – a relaxing way to end the day.

Trade tip: The river cruise return is worth recommending. After a full day on foot, clients get to sit back and watch the harbourside suburbs glide past. The coach alternative arrives back around 6:30pm for those who prefer.
Sydney Hop On Hop Off & Harbour Explorer
A self-paced day with a combined Harbour Explorer and Big Bus ticket. The rocket ferries visit up to eleven harbour precincts including Darling Harbour, Barangaroo, Circular Quay, Taronga Zoo, Watsons Bay, Manly, and Shark Island. The Big Bus 48-hour premium ticket covers city and Bondi routes on open-top double-deckers with commentary, hitting over 30 stops including the Opera House, Royal Botanic Gardens, and famous beaches.
The premium ticket also includes a free walking tour of The Rocks. This is a 2-day ticket, so clients have flexibility to use it across consecutive days if preferred.
Trade tip: This is a deliberately unstructured day – your clients choose their own pace. It works well for travellers who want a bit of breathing room between guided tours. Manly and Watsons Bay are the standout harbour ferry stops for international visitors. Overnight in Sydney.
Sydney to Cairns & Kuranda Afternoon Tour
Morning transfer to Sydney Airport for the flight to Cairns. On arrival, clients are transported to Riley by Crystalbrook – a destination resort in its own right with fast free Wi-Fi, Apple iPad in-room control centres, Nespresso machines, and restaurants including Paper Crane for wok-fried seafood and Rocco perched 42 metres above sea level with Mediterranean share plates and a champagne menu.
That afternoon, the Kuranda experience begins. A driver checks clients in using the Kuranda Boarding Pass, then they transfer to the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for the journey to Kuranda Village – gliding silently over the canopy with two stops en route for rainforest walks and lookouts. In Kuranda, there’s time to explore the Heritage Markets and optional visits to Birdworld, the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, or Kuranda Koala Gardens. The return journey is aboard the world-famous Kuranda Scenic Railway – winding through hand-hewn tunnels, across bridges, and around curves. Duration approximately 6 hours.

Trade tip: Skyrail has a multi-lingual interpretive app and audio guide available for download – worth flagging for non-English-speaking clients. Full Day on the Outer Reef
The day your clients have probably been waiting for. Transfers from Cairns accommodation to Port Douglas, then boarding Quicksilver’s sleek wave-piercing catamaran for the cruise to Agincourt Reef on the edge of the Continental Shelf. This is the outer Great Barrier Reef – vibrant coral, clear water, and marine life that lives up to the hype.
At the spacious reef activity platform, clients can snorkel with qualified safety officers on hand, view fish and coral from the underwater observatory or semi-submersible vessels, and watch fish feeding conducted by crew. Morning and afternoon tea are served on board, along with a hot and cold tropical buffet lunch. A marine biologist gives a reef presentation during the cruise.
There’s also an optional 30-minute scenic flight taking in Green Island, Vlasoff Sand Cay, and Upolu Sand Cay from the air – with chances to spot manta rays, turtles, and whales in season. Duration on the reef approximately 6.5 hours.

Trade tip: The scenic flight is a strong upsell for clients who want that aerial perspective. Book it at time of reservation. Clients who aren’t swimmers still get a full experience with the observatory and semi-subs. Overnight Cairns.
Full Day Cape Tribulation & Daintree Tour
A day in the world’s oldest rainforest. The tour heads north along one of Australia’s great scenic highways to Mossman Gorge Centre for morning tea, then a shuttle to Mossman Gorge for a guided boardwalk through the rainforest. Next is a Daintree River Cruise through the intricate ecosystem – keep an eye out for saltwater crocodiles.
A BBQ lunch in the rainforest of Noah Valley, an area renowned for its primitive flowering plants. Then on to Cape Tribulation Beach for a walk along the beach or boardwalk where rainforest meets reef. The afternoon includes a stop at the Daintree Ice Cream Company for exotic fruit ice cream (four flavours, with gluten-free and dairy-free options), followed by the Alexandra Lookout with its spectacular views over the Daintree River Estuary, Snapper Island, and the Coral Sea.

Trade tip: This is where two World Heritage areas meet – the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. That overlap is unique on Earth and it’s a strong talking point for selling this itinerary. The GPS-activated audio commentary is available in multiple languages. Overnight Cairns.
Cairns to Magnetic Island
Clients fly from Cairns to Townsville (approximately 55 minutes) and transfer to the ferry port for the 20-minute crossing to Magnetic Island. Accommodation is at Peppers Blue on Blue or similar – a modern resort with luxurious rooms, an award-winning restaurant, the largest free-form pool in the southern hemisphere, tropical gardens, and marina access. It’s a leisurely stroll from the ferry terminal.
Day 9 is at leisure on the island. Magnetic Island is one of those places that doesn’t need a packed schedule. Walking trails through national park, quiet bays, koala spotting in the wild, snorkelling off the rocks. The island has a genuinely relaxed character that’s hard to manufacture.
Trade tip: Magnetic Island is the pace-change in this itinerary. After several consecutive touring days, a full day at leisure lets clients decompress. It’s also relatively undiscovered by international visitors compared to the Whitsundays, which gives it a feeling of authenticity. The option exists to add an extra day in Cairns before this transfer if clients prefer more reef time or a rest day.
Magnetic Island to Daydream Island Resort
Today clients transfer back to Townsville for the approximately four-hour journey to Airlie Beach, then onward by ferry to Daydream Island in the Whitsundays.
Daydream Island Resort reopened after a $140 million redevelopment with 276 refurbished rooms and suites, expanded food and beverage offerings, and a revitalised pool landscape. The centrepiece is the Living Reef – a lagoon wrapping through the central resort building that holds over 100 species of marine fish and 80 species of coral. Resident marine biologists run group tours, hands-on experiences, and an educational programme on reef conservation. It’s a resort that genuinely engages with its environment rather than just sitting next to it.
Trade tip: Daydream works well for both families and couples. The Living Reef is a standout feature that gives the resort real substance beyond the pool and beach. Clients arrive mid to late afternoon, so the evening is about settling in and enjoying the resort facilities.
Whitehaven Beach Day Cruise
The hero day of the Whitsundays portion. Clients board the Cruise Whitsundays vessel directly from Daydream Resort and cruise around the 74 islands with commentary from an eco-certified skipper. Views of Passage Peak and Pentecost Island give way to secluded bays, turquoise water, and the dazzling 7-kilometre stretch of Whitehaven Beach.
At the southern end of Whitehaven, there’s time for swimming, walking to the lookouts, and beach activities on what’s consistently rated one of the world’s best beaches. Then a smaller vessel takes clients to the northern end for an eco-guided walk up to Hill Inlet Lookout – the iconic viewpoint where shifting tidal sands create those swirling patterns of white and blue that your clients will have seen in every Australian tourism campaign.
Trade tip: Whitehaven Beach is the single most photographed location in this entire itinerary and probably the image that sells it. The silica sand is 98% pure quartz – so fine it doesn’t retain heat. Hill Inlet Lookout is the money shot for social media. This day cruise departing directly from the resort keeps things seamless.
Leisure on Daydream & Departure
The final day offers a morning at leisure on Daydream Island. Clients can spend time at the Living Reef with the marine biologists, relax by the pool, or take a final swim. Departure transfers are arranged from Daydream Island to Airlie Beach and onward to Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast) Airport or Hamilton Island Airport for connecting flights.
Trade tip: We strongly recommend booking clients onward connections with enough buffer time for the ferry and transfer.
