COAST TO COAST

Sydney to Perth – Day by Day

The journey begins in Sydney as the Indian Pacific departs and climbs through the Blue Mountains towards the western plains. Travellers settle into their cabins, enjoy lunch in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant, and watch the landscape shift from green ranges to open outback before an evening Off Train Experience in the silver and mining town of Broken Hill.
A day of crossing into South Australia, with the train pausing in Adelaide. Travellers can choose from a selection of included Off Train Experiences, taking in the city, the Adelaide Hills, or local food and wine, before reboarding for the long haul west.
The full day on the legendary Nullarbor Plain, one of the longest straight stretches of railway anywhere in the world. The treeless horizon stretches endlessly in every direction. A highlight stop at the tiny outback settlement of Cook breaks up the day, with the chance to step onto the red earth in the middle of nowhere.
The final morning brings the goldfields region and the wheatbelt into view before the train rolls into Perth, completing the transcontinental crossing from the Pacific to the Indian Ocean. Travellers disembark having covered the width of the country in comfort.

THE MIGHTY NULLARBOR

Perth to Sydney – Day by Day

The Mighty Nullarbor takes the long way across, travelling from city to outback and back to city over five days and four nights. Departing Perth, the train moves through Western Australia’s agricultural districts before reaching the historic goldfields region around Kalgoorlie, where an Off Train Experience introduces travellers to the area’s gold rush heritage.
A full day on the Nullarbor Plain, taking in the vast treeless expanse and the famous straight stretch of track. The remote siding of Cook offers a chance to step off and stand in one of the most isolated places in the country, with the silver carriages stretching along the platform.
The train continues east into South Australia, where travellers disembark for an afternoon in the Barossa Valley, one of the world’s great wine regions. An evening of regional food and wine at the historic Seppeltsfield estate rounds out the South Australian leg before the journey presses on towards New South Wales.
Morning brings arrival in Broken Hill, the famed Silver City, with time to explore the outback mining town – from the Miners’ Memorial to its galleries and main street – before the train sets out on the final leg of the crossing.
The journey closes with a descent through the Blue Mountains and arrival into Sydney, completing the full city to outback to city crossing that gives this route its name.

The Indian Pacific suits travellers who enjoy slow, comfortable travel and want to experience the scale of Australia at ground level. It appeals to FIT travellers, couples, and small groups who appreciate fine dining, scenic landscapes, and the romance of a classic rail journey. With no need to drive or unpack along the way, it is also a relaxed option for older travellers and those wanting an easy, all-inclusive way to cross the continent.

Yes. Rail journeys make a memorable centrepiece for a Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) programme, and the shared experience of crossing the country together creates genuine connection. We can coordinate group bookings, layer in additional touring at the journey’s end points, and build the rail leg into a wider incentive programme. Reach out to our MICE team to scope a tailored proposal.

Because the train links Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney, it slots neatly into a wider Australian programme. Many travel agents pair the rail journey with city stays, wine regions such as the Barossa or Margaret River, or onward travel to Uluru, the Great Barrier Reef, or Tasmania. We can build a fully tailor-made itinerary around the journey to suit each traveller, and trans-Tasman extensions can be arranged through our New Zealand and Beyond Holidays (NZABH) team. Contact us at enquiries@aabh.com.au to discuss the options.
