Cairns to Sydney – Australia’s East Coast
Australia’s east coast is the journey most international travellers dream about, and for good reason. This 22-day itinerary covers the stretch from tropical Far North Queensland to cosmopolitan Sydney, threading together three of the country’s most celebrated regions: the Daintree Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef, the Sunshine Coast, and Sydney Harbour.
What makes this Australia and Beyond Holidays (AABH) itinerary different from the typical east coast package is the pace. Five nights on Green Island on the Great Barrier Reef. Six nights in Noosa. Four nights in Sydney. Your clients actually have time to unwind, explore at their own pace, and discover things that a two-night stopover never allows. The fly, drive, fly format keeps the logistics simple – flights between Cairns and the Sunshine Coast, a rental car for the self-drive leg through to Sydney, and seamless transfers at each end. Designed for travel agents building premium FIT programmes where the experience matters more than ticking boxes.

COMPLETE ITINERARY
Your East Coast Odyssey – Day by Day
Arrive in Cairns & Transfer to Daintree Eco Lodge
Your clients arrive at Cairns Airport and are transferred to the Daintree Eco Lodge – roughly 90 minutes north through sugar cane country and into the rainforest. The lodge sits in the heart of the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest, the only boutique accommodation actually within the rainforest itself. Fifteen eco-friendly bayans are nestled among ancient trees, each designed to immerse guests in the surrounding wilderness without compromising on comfort.
The Daintree Rainforest is estimated to be over 165 million years old – significantly older than the Amazon. The 1,200 square kilometres of tropical rainforest is home to tens of thousands of species, many found nowhere else on earth. Guests wake to birdsong from the canopy above. There’s a private waterfall on the property, reached by a leisurely walk through the forest.
Trade tip: The Daintree Eco Lodge is a genuine boutique property – just 15 rooms. It books out, particularly in peak season. Secure allocation early. The transfer from Cairns is scenic but long enough that clients arriving on late flights may prefer an overnight in Cairns first. We can arrange that.

Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures
A full day at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures, one of Far North Queensland’s best wildlife experiences. The Daintree River is home to approximately 70 adult crocodiles, the longest reaching around 5 metres. Guests can take a crocodile cruise to see these animals in their natural habitat and learn about the ecology of the river system.
Beyond the crocs, there’s a one-hour interactive guided tour with the mammal keepers. Guests get to feed and hold Australian marsupials – wallabies, squirrel gliders, wombats, and quolls. It’s hands-on in a way that surprises people who expect a more passive zoo experience.
Trade tip: This day works well for families and couples alike. The crocodile cruise is the highlight for most, but the marsupial encounters are what guests tend to talk about afterwards. It’s a solid wildlife day that doesn’t require much physical effort – a nice counterpoint to the more active rainforest days either side of it.

Daintree Eco Lodge – Explore the Rainforest
A free day at the lodge with a range of optional activities available. The Daintree is a magnet for birdwatchers – the number of endemic species in Far North Queensland draws enthusiasts from around the world. Guests can explore the property, visit the onsite waterfall again, or venture further afield.
Optional activities include cultural 4WD tours with local Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal guides, Daintree River cruises, guided rainforest walks ranging from 90 minutes to half a day, 4WD adventures to Cape Tribulation, and Indigenous art workshops where guests learn about ochre painting techniques and traditional stories. The rainforest features some remarkable trees – the ancient Bull Kauri reaches 44.2 metres, the tallest in the Daintree, while fragrant Ylang Ylang trees perfume the air and strangler figs wind throughout the canopy.
Trade tip: The cultural 4WD tours are the standout optional here. A local Aboriginal guide takes guests through Country, sharing the relationship between the Kuku Yalanji people and the environment. It adds real depth to the Daintree experience. We can pre-book any of these activities on behalf of your clients.

Transfer to Green Island Resort – Great Barrier Reef
Guests are transferred to the Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal for their catamaran cruise to Green Island with Great Adventures. The island sits 27 kilometres east of Cairns – a 45-minute boat ride to a coral cay that feels a world away from everything.
Green Island Resort is one of the most unique accommodation locations in Australia. It’s the only rainforest-covered coral cay on the Great Barrier Reef, and the resort sits right in the middle of it. On arrival, the resort team greets guests at the jetty, provides a short island orientation tour, then checks them into their suite. Luggage is delivered to the room.
The five-night package includes return catamaran transfers, complimentary sunset drinks, glass bottom boat tours, rainforest walks, guided evening nature walks, fish feeding presentations, snorkelling equipment, and most non-motorised beach activities – kayaking, windsurfing, beach volleyball. Once settled, the island is theirs.
Trade tip: Catamaran transfers from Cairns depart at 08:30, 10:30, and 13:00. Luggage restrictions apply – confirm details at time of booking. Five nights on Green Island is generous by east coast standards, but that’s the point of this itinerary. It gives clients time to properly experience the reef rather than rushing through on a day trip.

Green Island – Great Barrier Reef at Your Own Pace
Four days at leisure on Green Island. The reef surrounding the island supports a remarkable range of marine life – over 190 types of hard corals, more than 100 types of soft corals, and seagrass beds where juvenile fish shelter alongside sea turtles and dugong.
Guests can snorkel directly from the beach, take a glass bottom boat tour, or simply explore the island on foot. A 45-minute walking track circles the cay through 120 species of plant life and a vibrant array of resident birdlife. Self-guided eco walk booklets are available, or guests can join the resident Activities Officer at 15:00 for a guided stroll along the boardwalk – no two walks are ever quite the same.
The Beach Hire Hut provides complimentary equipment for house guests: windsurfing gear (Green Island has hosted the Australian Windsurfing Championship), canoes, kayaks, sun lounges, and umbrellas. For those who want to do nothing at all, that’s entirely the point. Pass the day on the beach. Read a book. Watch the reef from the shore.
Trade tip: Green Island suits clients who appreciate having nowhere to be. It’s not a party island or a resort complex – it’s quiet, natural, and intimate. Position it as the reef experience for travellers who want to slow down. The daily breakfast inclusion and complimentary activities mean clients feel well looked after without constant add-on costs.

Green Island to Cairns, Fly to Maroochydore, Drive to Noosa
Checkout day on Green Island, though guests can still use the resort’s shower facilities and the Coral Cay Guest Lounge right up until their departure boat. Catamaran transfers leave the island at various times through the day – the late boat at 16:30 lets clients squeeze every last hour from the reef.
From the Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal, guests are transferred to Cairns Airport for their flight to Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast. On arrival, they collect their rental car. Noosa is less than an hour’s drive north – an easy, scenic run along the coast.
Noosa needs little introduction. A world-class surfing destination blessed with beautiful sandy beaches and lush green hinterland. Guests check into the Mantra French Quarter, situated in the heart of Noosa with Hastings Street quite literally on the doorstep. This is home for the next six nights.
Trade tip: The self-drive leg starts here. The rental car gives clients freedom to explore Noosa, the Sunshine Coast hinterland, and later the drive south to the Gold Coast and on to Sydney. We arrange the car hire through our supplier network at wholesale rates – confirm vehicle class at booking.

Noosa & the Sunshine Coast
Five full days at leisure in Noosa (guests arrive on the evening of Day 9, giving six nights in total). The Mantra French Quarter wraps around a meandering lagoon pool with heated spa pools, a sauna, kids’ pool, and new poolside decks – a tranquil base between adventures.
There’s no shortage of things to do. Hire a bike and explore nearby Noosaville. Cruise the Noosa River by hire boat or catch the Noosa Ferry. The Sunshine Coast Hinterland is dotted with charming villages and popular markets – the Eumundi Markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays are a highlight, with arts and crafts, fresh produce, and speciality fare bringing the hinterland village to life.
Day trip options are strong. Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island, begins just off the tip of the Sunshine Coast – 4WD day tours are available. Australia Zoo draws visitors from around the world with its croc shows and conservation programmes. Sea Life Mooloolaba is Queensland’s largest oceanarium with over 5,500 sea creatures across four levels. The Buderim Ginger Factory offers tastings, tours, and a cooking school.
Trade tip: Six nights in Noosa is a selling point, not a hard sell. International travellers often underestimate how much there is to do on the Sunshine Coast. Position Noosa as the place where your clients will feel most like a local – morning swims at the beach, long lunches on Hastings Street, market mornings in the hinterland. We can pre-book day tours to Fraser Island and Australia Zoo to save clients the hassle of organising themselves.

Self-Drive to Gold Coast & Free Days
Guests drive south from Noosa to the Gold Coast – a comfortable couple of hours down the highway. The Gold Coast offers a different energy to the Sunshine Coast. Theme parks, surf beaches, nightlife, and the rainforest-clad hinterland all within reach.
Three nights here with two full free days. Accommodation is recommended based on client preferences and budget. Clients can choose their own pace – Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Heads, the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Tamborine Mountain, or simply the beach. The Gold Coast suits a range of traveller types, from families after theme park days to couples who prefer the quieter southern beaches and hinterland dining.
Trade tip: The Gold Coast is flexible by design. Some clients will want theme park tickets pre-booked; others will want restaurant recommendations and nothing more. We can tailor this segment to the client. For premium travellers, steer them toward Burleigh Heads and the hinterland rather than the Surfers Paradise strip.

Fly to Sydney & Days at Leisure
Guests drop off the rental car and fly from the Gold Coast to Sydney. Four nights in Australia’s harbour city, with accommodation tailored to client preferences and budget, and three full days at leisure to explore.
Sydney barely needs selling, but the key here is that clients have enough time to go beyond the Opera House photo and the Harbour Bridge walk. Three full days means they can visit Bondi, take a ferry to Manly, explore The Rocks, wander through the Royal Botanic Gardens, catch a show, or take a day trip to the Blue Mountains. The city reveals itself over time in a way that a single overnight never allows.
Trade tip: We can arrange guided touring in Sydney, harbour cruises, Blue Mountains day trips, or leave it entirely at leisure depending on the client profile. Most international travellers appreciate at least one guided experience in Sydney to get their bearings, then free time after that. We’ll recommend accommodation based on your client’s preferences and budget.

Depart Sydney
The itinerary concludes with departure from Sydney. Depending on flight times, there may be time for a final morning walk along the harbour foreshore or a last coffee in a neighbourhood café before transfer to Sydney Airport.
Trade tip: For clients with later departure flights, we can arrange a late checkout or a half-day guided experience – the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk is popular, or a private food tour through inner-city neighbourhoods. This itinerary also pairs well with extensions to the Red Centre (Uluru and Alice Springs), Melbourne, or onward to New Zealand through our subsidiary, New Zealand and Beyond Holidays (NZABH).
